From humble beginnings in a rural farm shop in 2012, their Christmas show has now been toured all over the UK, from concert halls and castles to village halls and churches, creating a unique and family friendly Christmas celebration. The song ‘Find Hope’ from Emily’s accompanying album ‘Songs For Christmas’ was play listed on BBC Radio 2. Her music has also been featured on BBC Songs of Praise Christmas and BBC Radio 2 Folk Show Christmas specials.
Sing along with traditional carols, tap your toes to upbeat instrumentals or simply close your eyes and let Emily’s evocative voice help you dwell on the joy and peace that Christmas can bring.

Zoë Bestel Trio
Zoë Bestel Trio
Venue: Old School Thornhill
Date: Friday 9th January | General Admission: £15 / Concession: £12
Ethereal vocals, poignant melodies and stirring lyrics describes 28 year old award winning nu-folk musician, Zoë Bestel, hailed as one of the Scotland’s most fascinating young singer-songwriters. As well as numerous BBC radio and TV performances, Bestel has been invited to support acclaimed artists such as Martin Carthy, Martin Simpson, Paul Brady, Chris Wood, Bella Hardy, and Snow Patrol’s Nathan Connolly, as well as captivating audiences across Denmark, Germany, Finland, Norway, and the Czech Republic, with festival highlights including Orkney Folk Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival, and Celtic Connections.
Encouraged by the resurgence of '70s folk, where lyrical stories and emotive music unite like-minded individuals at gatherings, Bestel aspires for her music to capture this spirit, inspiring listeners to connect with nature, and deepen their roots in the present. Her live performances create immersive experiences that explore beyond the typical confines of the folk genre drawing heavily on Bestel’s rural childhood in Dumfries & Galloway, entwined with occasional metaphorical political lyricism.
“Audiences are fast catching up with the fact that, in Bestel’s hands, the ukulele shrugs off its stereotypical comedy baggage and becomes the instrument of choice for one of Scotland’s most fascinating young singer-songwriters.” – The National

Film Screening: The Substance
Film Screening: The Substance
Venue: Old School Thornhill
Date: Thursday 30th October / 8.00pm - 10.30pm / £5
A film by Coralie Fargeat | 2024 | 2hrs 20mins | Rated 18
Get into the Halloween spirit with us at Old School Thornhill and join us for a special screening of The Substance!
A daring blend of body horror and dark satire, The Substance stars Demi Moore as Elisabeth Sparkle - a once-celebrated Hollywood star unceremoniously fired on her 50th birthday for being "too old." In desperation, she turns to a mysterious black-market drug that conjures a younger, seemingly ideal version of herself, embodied by Margaret Qualley. The film’s grotesque visuals serve as a bold allegory for society’s obsession with youth, beauty and the ruthless entertainment industry (and it doesn’t pull any punches).
